Mouth Full of Gum a.k.a. My Bridal Shower

I recently had my first bridal shower. Going into it, I was excited but slightly nervous. I am not one to be the center of attention, and knowing that people would obviously be looking at me a lot was a little overwhelming. (Just imagine what I’ll be like before the wedding! haha) However, once I arrived at the shower I had the best time.

My aunt did an amazing job decorating and setting everything up in her beautiful home.

Perhaps one of my favorite parts about this whole process is the opportunities that weddings create for quality time with those you love. And if you remember my post on the Five Love Languages, you’ll know that I am big on quality time. It was so fun to see my extended family and close family friends.

How cute is our flowergirl?

One of the more humorous parts of the shower was the question game. You know the game, where they ask the groom ahead of time a bunch of questions and then you have to guess his answers? Well, Mr. Ducky and I have always joked that we’d be horrible on any sort of Newlywed Game Show because he has no real absolute favorites so questions about him tend to be difficult. Sure enough that was the game at our shower and for each wrong answer I had to put gum in my mouth. I got all the relationship questions right, but when it came to his favorites it was a tad difficult. Even my Aunt said that when she talked to Mr. Ducky he wasn’t sure what to answer. Something like a favorite band/artist changes weekly depending on what mood he is in. We aren’t entering a game show anytime soon. Here is the result of me getting so many questions wrong…Sorry for the graphic and terribly unflattering picture! But now you can see how many wrong answer I had!

All of the food was delicious! Look at this fruit! Something about fresh fruit is so amazingly delicious.

My mom made a beautiful ribbon bouquet from all the gifts. Have you ever heard of the tradition that for every ribbon you break it is a future kid? Mr. Ducky was very concerned about this tradition.

Look at the hilarious favors my Aunt made! Kitchen gloves with some bling and nail polish! Mr. Ducky says they creep him out, but they make me laugh.

A picture of mama duckling and I at the end of the shower.

It was such a special time and I was so thankful for the generosity of everyone there. I regret that I didn’t take more pictures to share, but I guess I know for next time right?

Who Can I Shower?

Remember way back when I posted about the perfect pair bridal shower? I know a lot of you were really inspired so I’ve kept my eye out for other amazing ideas like that one. Well last week Courtney from Joyful Weddings and Events did a whole series on some of the amazing showers that she and friends have planned. I think I seriously was ooing and ahhing over every picture. Well now all I’m thinking about is who I can throw a shower for and put some of these ideas into use.

These were made by Melody, one of the newest PROs.

She made this with my favorite Cricut machine!

This was a shower put together by her amazingly talented sister-in-law, Lindsey. (I read her blog for craft and home decoration inspiration.)

How cute is this sign from a recent baby shower?

All Pictures from Joyful Weddings and Events

This such a small taste of all the amazing pictures and ideas that Courtney shared. I love that so many of them are DIY oriented and you don’t need a crazy budget to do something special and personal. Go check out her blog if you need some shower inspiration.

Another fabulous source of shower and party inspiration is Hostess with the Mostess. I am in awe over every detail and my mouth waters every time I see a picture of one of her sweet cocktails or desserts!

This would be such a cute centerpiece at a shower!!

The “Perfect Pair” Bridal Shower

I recently went to probably one of the best and cutest bridal showers I have ever been to! My cousin “K” got married in November so we had her shower a month or so before. The shower was thrown by her mom’s book club and was on the most creative showers I’ve seen yet. These ladies are amazing! I took lots of pictures knowing that I would just have to share them with you!!

The theme of the shower was “The Perfect Pair.” I received a cute pink and white invitation detailing all the shower details with little cut-outs of an athletic shoe and a high heel pump dangling off the main invitation. This would be the overriding theme carried out so well through the whole event.

When you walked up to the front door you were greeted with an athletic shoe and high heel hanging off the door.

On the island in the kitchen was a pink and white candy bar. Inside the miniature pink rain boot were the “to go” bags. One of the hostesses also made the adorable shoe cookies (seen below) that sat with the candy bar. The candy bar was stocked with good & plenty, pink & white M&M’s, animal cookies, jelly bellies, salt water taffy and these adorable tootsie pops that she had recovered in decorative paper over the original wrapper.

Now the lunches were genius! We had boxed lunches packaged ever so perfectly in your own personal shoe box. All the shoe boxes were pink, black or white featuring some of the most well known shoe designers. The box was tied with a satin bow that your fork was placed in as well as a perfect little black high heel cookie. Inside the lunch box was a sandwich, fruit salad, chips and a cupcake. What I loved about this is that you can do all the work ahead of time and it is an easy and affordable thing to do. No need to create a huge food buffet and display, just pack your normal elementary school lunch.

All of the details of this shower were so well executed. The house was decorated with shoes that had mini floral arrangements in them (the flowers were from the home’s garden) and cute little black lanterns also filled with flowers. The bride was given a gift set of cards that matched the theme of the shower to write thank-yous on later (but I didn’t get pictures, sorry!).

And of course we left with the cutest favor package! Inside each package was a foot scrub from Bath & Body Works; the perfect gift for the “Perfect Pair” shower.

So are you as impressed as I was? I’m really not even doing it justice in this post. I think the best part of the shower was how easy it would be to carry out something like this again. All the details are so perfect, but nothing is too expensive or impossible to actually do. It just shows how with each event you plan, you can add some personal touches and details that make all the difference for your guests. Now I can’t wait to plan a shower for a friend and use all these extra special details!
